Displaying the Flemish Community's artistic heritage

The Belgian Court of Audit has examined the way the Flemisch Community knows, manages and puts its artistic heritage on view. Due to different counting methods and a poor registration system, the Flemish authorities do not clearly know how many works of arts make up their collections. Flanders cannot say either to what extent the artpieces placed under the management of the department of Culture, Youth and Media - which amount to more than 18,000 pieces - are displayed to the public. The Flemish Minister in charge of Culture has not set any specific policy related to this matter, which, according to the Court, is one of the obstacles preventing the collections from being properly exhibited.
